Star RE: Fake Comp #20 vote off
Personally i don't think i'll be bothering to enter again seeing as i do fakes not fantasy collages. To me a fake is making it as real as possible which sometimes involves a lot of research work, finding out the body shape of the subject, finding out if they have publically known tattoo's and getting pictures of those tattoo's, etc. It seems to me the voting members (i've never voted in any comp that i've entered) just want big tits no matter who the subject is. I'm with Gazomg on this, why spend a few hours on a fake blending in hair and getting skin tones to match when a simple cut and paste job gets many more votes. Judging by the results i general get in the comps on here i can only surmise that my fakes are crap and i should perhaps find another hobby.

IF YOU POST MY WORK ON OTHER FORUMS AT LEAST HAVE THE DECENCY TO TELL ME WHERE IT'S BEING POSTED.

Do be hard on yourself.I think your annoyance is well founded and I along with many others appreciate your quality work deviant.
The voting was a complete joke on some fakes.
How number 10 got second place is a complete farce....and fake number 4 which is a far better quality fake than not just that but most managed to get ZERO votes is just wrong.

Whoever made number 4 deserves better.I am just glad that the fake that did win had quality about it as it would be a complete laughing stock.

I know my comments wont endear me to many but it has to be said.

I still can't see an issue here, surely people are voting for the fake they like, it's a point of view, an opinion. The competition isn't a competition on how good a fakir you are, it simply is a friendly vote off. Many fakes will be better in quality and you may think that one fake is better than an other, others will disagree with you. The leader has 23 votes, are 23 people wrong for voting for that fake, no, because those 23 people have seen something in that fake they like. The second in lead has 11, are those people wrong, no. Has I said before people see fakes in a different way. And you want my honest opinion, the fake in front isn't a bad fake at all, but hey, that's my opinion Smile

You are right...people can vote for who they like, and I also agree the format should stay the same.

However, I cannot accept that every member that voted did so on viewing every fake in full.Nor can i believe they genuinely thought a quick cut and paste job was more "worthy" of winning a comp that one by a fakir that had far more time effort, spent on it.

A medium sized cut and paste or chooses a fake twice as large, far more quality with no color, tone, light issues.

If people think that the results are a true reflection of what constitutes a quality comp then they are deluded.
The downside to lesser quality fakes doing well at the expense of better quality ones could have a far bigger negative impact., in that fakirs like the guy who did fake number 4 might decide not to enter again, and a competition is only as good as the quality entered.

Ok. this is probably going to be my longest post
I'm sort of a semi-lurker, i thank and post on fakes i feel need me to say so. i vote on comps if i catch them and open up each fake in the comp in a separate tab , go through them and shut down tabs untill i make my final choice. my choices mostly finish high up, so i cant be choosing to badly.
Just a thought but after the recent purge of lurkers and zero posters, are people voting just to make sure this isn't the next purge???
I was suprised with the scores afer my vote.
The fake currently winning is not bad (better than i can do or have time for) and took some skill to make. But lazy voters will just click so they have voted and been active.
thanks for reading and please , fakirs dont stop entering comps

I agree with FFY. It should be remembered that faking is an art form and, as such, is personal to the person viewing the finished work. What one person likes another may not. Technical issues come into a decision, but at the end of the day it is how the finished work appeals to the person viewing it.

I also think it would be wrong to have two different award schemes. It implies that fakers are somehow more able to judge a finished picture than a member who is not a faker.

Why do Gazomg and Deviant always seem to complain about members' comments to a fakers work or how they vote in competitions. This is not the first time we have had this sort nonsense. It is for this reason that I no longer view or comment on their work. I am in favour of constructive dialogue, but not this continual criticism about the level of members work. Perhaps we should start a Gazomg - Deviant competition. They could vote for each other and with nobody else voting they would both be winners.

Calm down! I'm a bit of a lurker because A) work gets in the way(my avatar is really me) and B) I dont have the skills, time or software to match superior members like Jack, Deviant or Gazomag et al.
Turner and Constable were denigrated by their betters, sometimes the flash of an initial image is more important than the whole, otherwise the impressionist movement would have failed!
Art is in the eye of the beholder, Rothko was a rotton matchpot painter in my book..... but then I like Caravaggio, the master of confused lighting.

pointing out where the fakes came from. If this is a problem I will take them down. In reference to Deviants comments his is a good fake but to be honest I think when There is a fake of a celeb we like I think a full nudity may get more votes. Not to be rude but personally I prefer Fauxtons fakes which didnt make the competition where the best.

I'm going to throw my 2 pence worth now, as a competitor on other boards in these types of competition. People will vote for their favourite celeb and whether it actually looks like them, next the pose and then skill. A bad cut & paste will get a few votes if the subject is well liked, but even the most technically brilliant composition wont fare that well if the subject is not popular, Also the pose plays a major part. Its a balancing act.

I'd rather settle down to read an H.P.Lovecraft, or Robert E. Howard than tackle Tolstoy and so it goes with faking

Seeing as the competition entries on here all have to use the same head shot there isn't any question of picking an unpopular subject.

I noticed that, so the next factor comes into play and that is the pose/BS. Some like it demure, others really HC and messy, but most like something in between. I personally can appreciate the hard work that goes into a piece of work, I understand about HS angles, lighting and colour matching etc and can generally gauge how much time and effort has gone into it. I once spent a long time on a piece for a comp and used more than 12 mats - I got 5 votes. I didnt even come close to the top 5 scores, but what the hell. I still enter and still fake, but I can still sympathise with someone who truly feels put out because their hard work doesn't appear to be appreciated
