I thought just for shits and giggles, it would be fun to see what our collective brains thought the best ever Christmas song is, so if we all suggest one each for a few days then I'll start a poll the week leading up to Chrimbo.
I nominate Slade - Merry Xmas Everyone. Just a bit of fun. Merry Christmas ![]() Proud member Of FBBF since August 2008 |

Argh, that's such a tough call. Part of me wants to say the Pogues, Fairytale of New York, but the less cool, cheesy-pop lover inside me really thinks that Shaky's Merry Christmas Everyone is the best Christmas song.

The happiest Christmas song must be Slade, and dare I say "White Christmas" is cheesy but quality; but my favourite is unquestionably The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York", especially the version with Kirsty McColl (who I adored, may she RIP).

Not in the strictest sense a Christmas song (though he does wish he was at home for Christmas and it ends in a Christmassy way),
Jona Lewie's 'Stop the Cavalry' I think it's a lovely simple little tune, evocative of tradition with the brass band and everything, sentimental as hell but reminding us of those who cannot be home for Christmas, and those who never came home. A gentle tune but able to stir powerful emotions (in me anyway). Very nice video too... This is a good idea for a thread, I'm sure there will be many varied opinions! God rest ye merry, gentlemen, with White Christmas, Silent Night, and Silver Bells following close behind.
Although, after the first hundred hours of muzak carols inflicted over low quality PA systems, one finds oneself longing for Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer to be put on repeat.
