I ended up writing up these additions to the procedure outlined for another post and thought I'd put them here as well.
The procedure outlined here can be made easier if the imported face/head layer is made (temporarily) partially transparent whilst you are moving and resizing it. Also, you can avoid the quality loss caused by multiple resizings by recording the start and end sizes and angle of the HS (I usually use a line between the outer points of the eyebrows if the shot if relatively straight on) and then importing another copy and doing the rotation and resize in one step each.

For Photoshop users you can scale and rotate a headshot non-destructively if you convert it to a Smart Object first (I don't know if there's an equivalent operation in gimp). To do this right-click on the layer you want to convert and select "convert to smart object." This also allows you to apply editable filters such as Blur, Sharpen, Noise and (in CS5) Puppet Warp. I think this might be limited to CS2 and above though. |
