Brick RE: The F1 Thread
Rubbish.
You can't have a good car with a crap driver and you can't have a crap driver with a good car, rarely has a world champion been a crap driver with an amazing car, or an amazing driver with a crap car, you have to have a mixture of the two.
Example you think a footballer would as great as they are without the support of a good team, course not, individuals make teams and get rewarded for it. such is the way with world champions in F1
And people try to relate to Formula 1 as it looks easy....but its really not, the level of atheism and body strength is simply mind blowing, for 'driving a car'.
F1 is a sport, just because it 'looks easy' and they sit down and doesn't involve a net or a ball, doest mean its not a sport, otherwise you may as well thought all motor sport (notice the sport word in there) out the window, and I don't think over 50 years of championship racing great drivers, competitive rivalries and decades of entertainment and all the rest that comes with just F1, never mind the rest of motor sport events, would continue if people thought it was pointless and 'not a sport'.
Mind you...the Sunday mail.....COME ON like that's a piece of ground braking journalism.

(phew rant over Smile)

Yippee!! Visitors, I'll put the kettle on.Smile Milk and sugar?
I saw and read this article on Sunday by Patrick Collins, a man who never has written anything positive about F1 in any piece I've seen. All I have to say is this Mr. Collins, if it is just the car, why don't you have a go at it yourself and we'll all have a bloody good laugh at your expense!!!Flaming

Breath deeply, breath deeply. Calm now. cheers

What the article is stating is that Mr.Average Jensen Button hasn't become a world beater overnight in the same way that Mr.Talented Lewis Hamilton hasn't become a failure overnight. It's mainly the car!Why do you think Ferrari threw the bottle out of the pram when it looked like their finances were going to be pegged back in an attempt to try and make Formula 1 a level playing field!(and I don't think there would be such an outcry if a non-British driver was leading the championship!)
I'm in my mid fifties and well remember the likes of Jim Clark,John Surtees,Stirling Moss et al racing in cars that wouldn't pass an M.O.T. test these days! Then it was down to the drivers capability, not how many tens of millions of dollars your corporation could afford on research and development to outdo the opposition.
I've done the early morning rises for the Australian and Japanese Grand Prix.I've watched live Grand Prix and suffered Nigel Mansells disappointment in '86.40 or more years of watching Grand Prix has only left me wondering when the racing will start!!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you enjoy it,then full marks, but I'm going off to enjoy my Speedway,Super Bikes and other competitive motor sports!Sorry lads, but I just find it the sporting equivalent of watching paint dry when I used to be as fanatical as you all obviously are!

Yes, I too would like to see close racing with lots of overtaking and dicing for position. The Moto GP from Barcelona was absolutely brilliant and I long for the day when F1 is like that, but at the moment it isn't. So until then I'll quite happily watch it as it is and I'll still enjoy it. Thanks for the feedback, this I feel could run and run.:thanks:

Harrumph! Etc... The people like that HACK who write for the Andrex tabloids make me sick. Yes, the cars ARE very important (Wow! That must have taken YEARS of research...) but to decry the drivers role is demonstrative of a total lack of any thought (so no fucking surprise there then - it IS the Mail, who think journalism means sensationalism and can only sell their arsewipe junk with racist crap and free offers).

F1 drivers are incredibly fit (physically), supremely talented in finding the fastest way around a multitude of tracks, and they also risk their lives every time they go to work for fuck's sake!

Why do most teams have a No. 1 and No. 2 driver (officially or not)? Because one of them is quicker than the other. Of course the drivers make a difference - think of all the fantastic overtaking manoeuvres you've seen over the years - courtesy of sheer courage and balls of steel.

It may have become a parade to some (different scale budgets in the past few years, faster adaptation of the new rules with Brawn), so the only true test of who's the best driver would be if all the cars were identical. Well that's not going to happen, but from next year it'll seem a lot, lot closer with the budget cap. Well done to the FIA for shaking things up for the better.

AND STOP BUYING THAT SHITTY PAPER!

Nuff said - I'm off for a lie down now...

Holy moly, this has become a right old can of worms and no mistake. I think that everybody should calm down a bit, sit down have a nice cup of tea and breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out and relax, think peaceful thoughts. Imagine yourself being massaged by your fave celeb, and go to that happy place.Cool
Now stay there until the lights go out and the race starts on Sunday.

This advice has been bought to you by Dr. Frasier Grimpenmire...I'm listening!Big Grin

Well a Schumacheresque drive by young master Vettel left everyone else breathing his exhaust fumes. Button struggled until after his last pit stop when his car came alive, he managed 6th. As for Lewis well, he had a bit of a dice with Alonso and actually overtook him going into Copse, then a couple of corners later his car didn't do what he wanted and Alonso got the place back. Needless to say the reigning world champion was lapped. I think McLaren should take their car to a garage to see if they can get £2000 on the scrappage scheme.
But the whole weekend was over shadowed by this damn stupid schism that has threatened the whole of F1. We all want to see the best cars and drivers, everybody agrees the need to cut costs so,for the love of all things holy, SORT IT OUT!Taz

was a fine race from the cheeky German, as i call him, was disappointed with Webber but he did good with 2nd, Barichello just teasing himself with chance to win.......as for the Brits, well button and Hamilton both struggled, the McLaren being as about as drivable as a oil tanker and Button wasn't exactly his flawless self, but all credit to Red bull a wonderful drive for the 1-2.
I refuse to talk about the Fiats...

Probably one of the best GP's of the year. Redbull finally on top where they belong. They took a gamble of not developing the 08 car and to concentrate on the 09 and it seems to have worked. A great one-two but it should have been Webber getting the win. Can't get the result that I want. I guess that Vettel is the start of the new guard of F1 but it would have been nice to see Webber getting the win that he so greatly deserves. Just have to hold my breath until the next 3 weeks.

It seems that peace has suddenly broken out in the crazy world of F1. Max is going and the "breakaway" teams are back in the F1 family again. All is warm and cosy, birds are singing and all is right with the world, for the moment.ClapClap
I can now sleep easily until Germany.Thumbsup
